The band’s self-titled debut record was released on July 6h 2011.
This is album has successfully kick-started my summer, even though it’s only March!!
The band contains a mixture of laid back rock with distorted guitars.
From listening to this record and watching the band’s music video for “Can I Get a Role Model?”, I feel that “Dangerous Idiots” should enter the Irish music scene this year!!
The album is currently available to download on iTunes for €7.99/ £6.99.

Agitate The Gravel : “Wilderness Years” – Debut E.P.

“Agitate The Gravel” are an unsigned Irish rock quatro based in Cork, Ireland.

They are:
Chris Somers (vocals/guitar)
Ruairi Dale (guitar/vocals)
Muireann Levis (bass/vocals)
Cormac Connolly (drums)

Agitate The Gravel’s sound is truly unique. I would love to tell you which bands you could compare them to – but the fact is, it is quite difficult for me to do so!!

The band formed in early 2010. They spent a year creating their live set before proceeding to take over the city. They have an energetic stage presence and their level of professionalism on stage is absolutely gob-smacking for an unsigned band. They have supported bands such as Tera Melos (US) and the James Cleaver Quintet (UK) to date. Six months after the band have started gigging, Agitate The Gravel have played over 40 dates around Ireland – and they are still as busy as ever!

The band are also celebrated amongst the student scene for their last release entitled "Christmas no.1". I recommend that you listen to this track. It would give “The Darkness” a run for their money on the Christmas song they released some years back!

WILDERNESS YEARS
Agitate the Gravel’s self produced debut single., “Wilderness Years” was released in physical and online form on 10 August 2011.

From the moment I started to listen to this three track E.P, I was addicted.
All of these songs are written and produced by the band. I think their music just proves how badly original Irish bands are needed in this industry. This is the appropriate cue for me to plead “SUPPORT (for) LOCAL BANDS!!”
Agitate The Gravel have a very “tight” and “festival like” band sound. This is another reason why you should purchase their debut offering.
There is a large contrast between both songs on this single. From the mellow title track “Wilderness Years ” to the head-banging track “Don’t Know”, a song exists for every type of rock music lover on this E.P.

FAVE TRACK FROM THE E.P:
Very hard to pick one of the two but I’d say it would have to be their b-side entitled “Don’t Know”. It reminds me of the American alternative rock band “Weezer”.
This studio version just proves how energetic Agitate The Gravel are as a band.
From the rich guitar chords to the soaring vocals of the frontman to the blistering lead guitar riff that decorates the song……I think it is the perfect set-opener and a real crowd pleaser!

Tied To The Mast: "Plain Lazy" Debut Single

“Tied to the Mast” are a UK based alternative indie rock quintet.

Their debut single “Plain Lazy” was released on July 20^th 2011.

This is definitely my summer 2012 track!!

The band possesses a very fresh and dream-like quality to their music which is perfect for starting your summer holidays! After all, an opportunity to act “Plain Lazy” is what the summer is all about, right?
Subsequently, from listening to this single and watching its respective music video, I feel that “Tied to the Mast” should grace the stage of all the major festivals this year! (Like T in the Park for example.)

So add this song to your summer 2012 soundtrack!

Nation of the State: "How to Hijack a Hearse" Debut Album

“Nation of the State” are an Irish rock quatro based in both Dublin and London.
They are:
Botham Valentino (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar)
Daniel Hynes (Lead Guitar)
Ed Scanlan (Drums/Backing Vocals)
Ciaran Hurd (Bass Guitar)

From the moment I started to listen to their music online, I was hooked.
These songs are written by the lead vocalist, Botham Valentino and I think their music just proves to us how badly original bands are needed today.
NOTS have supported famous acts like: Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Aslan, Noise Control, & The Minutes .
They have played at festivals such as: “SXSW”, “Rock The Ink” , “Seasessions”.
And also well- loved venues: “The House of Blues” in Chicago, “The Hope & Anchor” in Islington and “Bruxelles” in Dublin (to name but a few).
I would love to tell you which bands you could compare them to (to give you a better idea as to what they sound like) - but the fact is, it is quite difficult for me to do so!!

Debut Album:
NOTS’s new record, “How to Hijack a Hearse” was released on June 2nd at the much loved venue “The Crawdaddy” in Dublin City.
This is a professionally recorded album by renowned producers;
Ger McDonnel (U2, Def Leppard ) , Philip Magee (The Script) and Antimo Puca.

Their soulful lyrics, “tight” overall band sound and perfectly placed gang vocals on tracks like “Marie” are three reasons why you should listen to NOTS’s debut offering.
There is a large contrast between each song on this record. From mellow acoustic tracks like “Home” and “Red Moon” to head-banging tracks like “Smiley Face”, there is a song for every type of rock music lover on this amazing record.
Also, the band released a music video for their song “Feel the change” (7th track from the debut album) earlier this year.
It is a wonderfully directed video and we get to see the band in action even if we’re not at one of their concerts!

Favourite track from the record:
Very hard to pick one but I’d say “Smiley Face”.
This particular song shows us how unique NOTS are, from the rich, gravelly vocals of the frontman to the blistering instrumental music provided by the other members of the band.
I think it is a perfect set-opener and a real crowd pleaser!!!!

The Riot Tapes

 
“The Riot Tapes” are a six piece alternative rock band mainly based in Dublin, Ireland.
They’re currently gigging at the moment and I advise you to head along to at least one of their sets because their sound is truly unique and refreshing.
Here’s a mini Gig Guide:
Tonight, (April 29th) they’re playing a set upstairs in “Whelans” with “Low Sea” and “Sacred Animals” .
Tomorrow night, they’re playing an acoustic rock set in “The Workman’s Club” (and in my opinion, from listening to their material, they’re an act for all new bands to follow).
On May 5th, they play as part of A “Guided By Voices” Tribute night also in “The Workman’s Club”.
They released their debut single “Photograph” on March 23rd and trust me when I say, it’s a corker!
Elaine’s fresh and sultry vocals combined with the band’s unique, upbeat composing style makes me feel that they should be slotted into the major festivals this summer! This is definitely my summer track!!

Scuba Dice: "The Lost Art of Romance" E.P.

“Scuba Dice” are a pop-punk quartet hailing from Leinster, Ireland.
They are currently touring the country as we speak and from what I’m seeing, every show is as impressive and exciting as the next!
The band have come a long way since they started : From a band who were the “outcasts” of a talent show, to a band who wowed a crowd of 16000 at the 02 in Dublin. (They have supported big acts such as Paramore and My Passion to name but a few).
These guys have always given their all in the music they play and their E.P “The Lost Art Of Romance” is a great example of that!!
This E.P is available to download for FREE from the band’s website http://www.scubadice.ie/ so get cracking!!
I know this is meant to be a review of the band’s e.p. but there isn’t very much I can put into words! This E.P. is one blistering Punk-Rock track after the other with the utilisation of gang vocals in the chorus and intro of “Not that I Care” and in the intro and pre-chorus of “Nothin’s Free”. The Lyrics are very cleverly composed and the overall musicality of this record had me clicking on the “repeat all” icon on my media player!

The band made a music video for their single “Not that I care” recently. It’s excellently shot and it displays the same professionalism that they bring to their live performances so have a watch: 

To conclude, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a group who’s name will be impossible to avoid in the next few years!
